RELEASE NOTES ------------- * Slackintosh 10.2 included a qt-3.4.2-powerpc-1.tgz package. That was a typo: it should be called '3.3.4'. So take care if you are upgrading from 10.2, as upgradepkg won't work : -> Remove the old package first and install the new QT-Package. QUICK INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Slackintosh is splitted into different ISO images. You'll need the second image for X.org (or use the DVD) * Download the iso images you need and burn them with 'cdrecord' or similar applications. * Insert the first CD into your CDROM-Drive and start your Mac. * Hit 'c' a after you hear the 'startup tune'. You should now see the 'yaboot:' prompt. Now: -> Hit ENTER to continue with the default kernel -> Type 'installfb' and hit ENTER if the default kernel doesn't like your monitor (Flickers) * After the system is done booting, login as root (no password) and run 'mac-fdisk /dev/your_harddrive' if you need to create partitions. -> You need a 'partition map' (hit 'i' if you don't have one) -> You need a 'bootstrap partition (hit 'b' to create one) -> You need a normal linux-partition, hit 'c' to create a newone -> A swap partition is recommended. Create a new partition using 'c' and calling it 'swap' * Run 'setup' :-) REPLACE THE KERNEL *************************************************** * 64-Bit users will need to replace the kernel * * because there is no 64bit-kernel package * *************************************************** 1. Finish the installation and reboot the system 2. Boot again using the cdrom: hit 'c' 3. At the yaboot prompt, type: g5pcc64 root=/dev/your_root_partition example: 'g5ppc64 root=/dev/hda3' 4. The installed Slackintosh system will start to boot. 5. Login and mount the installer-cd (#1) 6. Replace the kernel: cat /mnt/cdrom/boot/$kernel > /boot/vmlinux 7. Run 'ybin' 8. Reboot 9. The system should now be bootable from your harddrive. You are missing the kernel-modules, so please (re)compile your own kernel to get a 'clean' setup 64-Bit Support is experimental, see: http://wiki.workaround.ch/kakiwaki?P='64bit' ############################################################################### What is SlackIntosh? ==================== Slackintosh is a port of Slackware GNU/Linux to PPC (Macintosh). Russell Kroll was the first person who ported Slackware to PPC (http://slackintosh.exploits.org), but the project stalled with an unfinished 9.1 .. We started again from scratch porting 10.1 to PPC. Is it real Slack? ================= Beginning with 12.0: Yes, almost everything is there. Upgrading from 11.0 to 12.0 =========================== Upgrading Slackintosh is the same as upgrading Slackware, read Pat's UPGRADE.TXT instructions. You could also try slapt-get.
